Jakarta, 4 August 2026 – Senior leaders from companies across the mining, energy, and supporting sectors gathered for the roundtable discussion, “Can Women Work in Mining and Energy Sectors?”, organized through a collaboration between the Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE) and PT Bisa Ruang Nuswantara (BIRU).

Held at The Forum, BUMA International Group, South Quarter Tower C, South Jakarta, the forum provided a strategic platform for decision-makers to discuss how industries can create more inclusive and safer workplaces while providing equal opportunities for women across the mining, oil and gas, and renewable energy sectors.

The discussion brought together perspectives from corporate leaders, industry practitioners, and key stakeholders to openly explore the challenges, opportunities, and concrete actions needed to increase women’s participation in industries that have traditionally been male-dominated.

As global expectations around Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles continue to rise, diversity and inclusion have become increasingly important in building more sustainable and competitive industries. The forum emphasized that increasing women’s participation is not only a matter of equality but also an important part of business strategy in addressing future talent needs.

Throughout the discussion, participants addressed a range of strategic issues, including women’s talent development, women’s leadership in industry, inclusive workplace culture, occupational safety, and the importance of collaboration among businesses, educational institutions, and civil society organizations in developing a more diverse workforce.

The forum generated several key points that will serve as a foundation for a shared commitment to strengthening diversity across the mining and energy sectors.

Through this forum, IBCWE and BIRU hope that the discussion will go beyond an exchange of ideas and serve as the beginning of broader collaboration to build a more inclusive mining and energy industry ecosystem. The implementation of these commitments is expected to create more opportunities for women to build careers, grow professionally, and take on leadership roles in Indonesia’s strategic sectors.

Moving forward, cross-sector collaboration will remain essential to ensuring that industry transformation not only drives economic growth but also creates workplaces that are fair, safe, and provide equal opportunities for all talent, regardless of gender.
